The fianl week

So here we are, finally at the end of the course. And what better way to end a course than to talk about Powerpoint. Powerpoint is important to learn because we will use it for the remainder of our college experience and outside of college- if we plan to work in corporate America. Learning powerpoint etiquite will help us understand how to reach our audience and do a presentation successfully. Our instructor provided us with material of the do's and dont's of powerpoint. This information was very helpful so I will share a few points that I found very helpful to me ( although they all are helpful):
-Keep it simple: make sure there isnt too much going on in one slide. Be tasteful when it comes to graphics, animation, and font. You want to make sure that your presentation is clear and understandable.
-Minimize slides: dont overwhelm your audience with a million and one slides of information. 10 slides is good enough and try to keep atleast three bullets of inforation on a slide.
-Use key phrases: this will help you limit information on your slides. This means you have to know your information.
-And lastly, what many people seem to take for granted, make sure your presentation can run on any computer. You dont want to just assume so check the program you will be using before hand ( if possible).
I hope that this information is as helpful to you as it is for me. Take care everyone and be blessed!

Week #6: Learnig about APA

Hello,

This week was once again an enlightening edxperience. I got the opportunity to learna bout APA formatting for a research paper. One would think you would learn enough about this in high school, but that is not the case. Atleast not for me it wasnt. I dont ever feel as though I have learned APA formatting completely because I everytime its presented to me , I learn something different or new about it. I enjoyed using the OWL website, as it was very detailed on how to cite references from all sources.
I also learned about using keywords in a literature search. It was helpful to know how to do a search successfully because I know that papers will be a  major factor in completing my degree. As I have already said, this week was another successful enlightment and I cant wait to see whats next!!

Week #5 Preparing for Test/ Test taking

Greetings,
Well it is the closing og week five, and so far things have gotten much better. I guess I should be thankful for our lesson that we learned this week about test taking. Actually, this lesson is a week late because I had a midterm last week in my Natural Science class and I had soo much anxiety towards it. I dreaded the thought of completing it, and studying for it seemed so over-whelming. I waited until the very last hour of the very last day to complete the exam. I didnt even have enough time to finish the  whole test before the timer shut me out of the exam ( I had 5 more questions). While I didnt fail the midterm, The grade that I recieved wasnt the best and I know that I couldve done much better if I wouldve properly prepared. All in all, I guess I should be greatful  because, like I said, I did pass.
This weeks lesson was about test taking strategies, different types of test and how to prepare for test-taking.Over coming test anxiety was alos apart of this weeks lesson. I learned so much throughout our reading assignments, but one key point that I know is going to get me through my next test is using the five day study plan. Using the five day study plan allows me to space out my studying so that its not so over-whelming as well as giving me enough time to tackle every aspect of my material. Using this plan along with some of the other strategies I will be sure to pass my final exams or any other tests. Wish me luck!!!!!

Week four: Goals and Time management

Hello and Happy Easter (Resurrection Sunday) to all!!!!!

This week lesson has left me doing some thing, thinking about my life. My goals- im sure we all have them- but are they really reachable? And how much time out of my " busy" schedule am I alotting to make sure that I achieve my goals? The lesson on goal setting really encouraged me to make more short term goals so that I can be happy about achieving something. Sometimes long term goals can take so long to happen that we can easily give up on them. But if I set more short term goals, as simple as completeing a homework assignment on time or finishing up the laundry by 4pm, can keep me motivated to complete long term goals.
Time management is important in every aspect of life. You need time for work, family, home, community/ church, and the list can continue forever. But what about personal time?- which is comething I nee to focus more on. I need to make time for my goals ( completing school), relaxing, reflection and meditation, and exercise. I am just so caught up in my other obligations that sometimes I feel like where is the time for me? Where do I fit in?
I listen to Stephen Covey and how there are four aspects of life. This message really gave me insight on how I should be taking care of the "whole" me- heart, mind, body, and spirit. And I plan to do so. In fact, it is my GOAL to do so!!!

Week Three: Plagiarism

Greetings,
I am a little behind because I had some diffuculty understanding how to blog. Luckily, One of my classmates stayed comitted to helping me figure this out ( Shout out to Craig!!!). Anyway, what I want to address in this blog would be our assignments on plagiarism. After really realizing what plagiarism really is, I became shocked at the fact that I possibly might have plagiarized somewhere in my academic lifetime- luckily I never got caught. I always thought that plagiarism was copying someones words verbatum without giving them credit. Who knew ( other than those that study it) that there was so many different kinds of plagiarism. So what I would like to share with my fellow students out there that are in the dark about plagiarism would be the article that went with our lesson. It is important for everyone to know how serious plagiarism really is and I encourage everyone to do more research, if needed, to figure the do's and dont of writing.

Week one/two

Hello,

This is amazing! I have never done a blog before so bare with me. I am some what of a rookie when it comes to being computer savy, so my online experience was a little challenging in the beginning. Going into the second week of being online has gotten better. Learning about plagarism has been very enlightening. According to our class readings, I believe I might have plagarized a couple time and not have even realized it. I thank God that I wasnt penalized for my ignorance. This class has already been so helpful that I look forward to what we are going to learn next!
