Hello to you out there in technology world! It is me, Crystal D, coming to you live from my living room couch and trying to gain excitement about taking an online Social Studies college course. It is not anything that my current t teacher has done- no, it is the fault of my past Social Studies teachers that has made me yawn at the 4 syllable word combination. I believe that I only had one, yes one, teacher who made Social Studies fun and relevant.Thankfully, I survived grade school- but now am responsible for learning all I can from this course so that my future students wont write anything dreadful about Social Studies on their future blogs.
So here I am. Starting a blog to share my journey through SST with my classmates, teacher (s), and the rest of the world. I must admit,I am a little nervous because of the standard that is put in this class. I have to be on my A game for sure.I am looking at Social Students through a different lense and that can be overwhelming within itself. But through it all, I pray that as I travel through the concepts, standards and strategies from this course, the nervousness, fear, and anxiety will all decline. I looking forward to making the best out of this class ( I got to take it regardless) and becoming a effective teacher, especially in Social Studies.
DID YOU KNOW...
If you have not been following the Oklahoma House of Representatives on the attempt to ban AP History, then you have been missing out on the juice. 11 of the House representatives, that wanted to ban AP History, did not believe that the content talked about American exceptionalism. Instead they believed that it only spoke on the flaws of America. Georgia Senate wanted to make revisions to the AP History, taking out things about the Founding Fathers, Declaration of Independence, and any other thing that required controversy and hard work. Basically, anything that showed America as confrontational should be removed. Instead they want to promote America as patriotic.
Of course parents, teachers and even some students got involved and protested on doing away with AP History and even the government having a say so on what they should teach. They made a proposal that made such an outcry that the bill never made it to the floor of the House. And we shout: Halellu!!!!
I just wish they would stop trying to change history. People parish for a lack of knowledge. If we are really honest, America is to blame for some of the history that is in the book. But, that does not mean we throw it out. We let it stand as an example of what not to do for our generations to come.
